Butch was born on January 17th, 1942 in Girard, KS, and was the son of Otto and Jessie (Timi) Ossana. Butch graduated from Arma High School in 1959, went on to graduate from Pittsburg State University in 1964 and was a proud member of Phi Sigma Fraternity. Throughout his years in school he worked at his parent’s restaurant, the Double O. He met the love of his life, Janice Simmons, at midnight one night in Fort Scott, KS. They went on to get married on June 29th, 1963 in Arma. Butch began working for Firestone and continued working there for many years before retiring in 2006. He loved to dance, golf, fish, travel and “go to the boats”. While starting out as only a volunteer for Special Olympics, he eventually went on to become the coach for both basketball and softball. Butch found a passion for coaching and loved the relationships he built throughout the years. His love for sports showed in many ways as he was also certified to officiate basketball which he developed a passion for as well. His love continued once his grandchildren started participating in sports. Outside of his love for sports and cheering on his grandchildren, Butch enjoyed spending time with his friends and family. In fact, he was often described as “the life of the party”.
Butch was preceded in death by his parents and an infant son, Bruce Allen Ossana. He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Jan, 3 children and their spouses; Gina and Bill Sublette, Tami and Richard Brooks and Jason Ossana. 7 grandchildren; Ryan Gorenc (Kayla Gorenc), Eric Gorenc (Caroline Gorenc), Anthony Sublette (Auni Sublette), Billy Sublette (Jill Sublette), Nichole Sublette, Jessica Brooks and Jennifer Brooks. 8 great grandchildren; Jason Gorenc, Michael Gorenc, Harper LouAllen, Brady LouAllen, Jurni Sublette, Dustin Sublette, Dameon Workman and Jade Sublette. The family suggest memorials to Project Clear at Johnson County Community College, which is a program for special needs adults. Memorials may be sent to or left at Bedene Funeral Home, 517 E. Washington, Box 621, Arma, Kansas 66712.
