Lois Akers, 101, formerly of Arma, Kansas died at 2 A.M. Wednesday, October 4, 2023 at her home in Mt. Vernon, Illinois.
Mrs. Akers was born April 21, 1922 in Humansville, Missouri the daughter of Harry William and Polly Smith Walden. She married the love of her life, Kenneth Akers, on July 15, 1939 in Clinton, Henry County, Missouri. Mr. Akers preceded her in death on May 22, 2015, at the age of 96. Both Mr. and Mrs. Akers were long-time members of the First Baptist Church in Arma, Kansas until moving to live with their daughter in Mt. Vernon, Illinois in 2012. Survivors include three daughters, Cathy (Calvin) Murphy of Mt. Vernon, Sherry (Randy) Roberts and Janet (David) Garretson, both of Pittsburg, Kansas. Also surviving are grandchildren, Jon Akers, Beth Akers, Polly Gray, Michael Murphy, Mandy Reynolds, Chris Roberts, Katie McMurry, Kimberly Hughes, Kenny Brumback, and Chelsea Garretson, and 15 great-grandchildren. Mrs. Akers was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Kenneth, and her son, Kenneth Richard Akers.
Funeral services will be at 10 A.M. Monday, October 16, 2023 at the Bedene Funeral Home at Arma, Kansas with her nephew Rev. Jim Brack officiating. Burial will be at the Pittsburg Garden of Memories. The family will receive friends Sunday, October 15, 2023 from 6 to 7 P.M. at the Bedene Chapel. Arrangements are under the direction of the Bedene Funeral Home, 517 E. Washington, Box 621, Arma, Kansas 66712.
