Joseph Mullen, 91, of Baton Rouge, Louisiana, died Saturday June 8, 2024 at The Barclay House of Baton Rouge. He was born in Ft. Scott, Kansas and grew up in Southeast Kansas.
He was a U.S. Navy veteran of 26 years. He served in the Korean War and the Vietnam War. He was a plank owner of the USS Henry Clay (SSBN-625), where he served as chief of the boat. He attended the University of Kansas and was a diehard Jayhawks fan. He graduated from Sophia University in Japan with a business degree. He was preceded in death by his wife of 62 years, Carol Ann Davis, his son, Jeffrey Mullen, his parents, Joseph Mullen, Sr. and Thelma Mullen, his sister, Paula Williams, and a brother, Carl Mullen. Survivors include his son Mike (Kim) Mullen and his daughter Julie (Mac) Perry, two grandsons, Jeremy (Elise) Mullen and Jared (Carmen) Mullen, two great grandchildren and five step great grandchildren. He also survived by his sister, Patricia Hutton.

Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10 A.M. Thursday, June 20, 2024 at the St. Joseph Catholic Church in Arma, Kansas with Father Daniel Vacca as the celebrant. Rosary will be said at 9:30 A.M. Thursday prior to mass at St. Joseph Catholic Church. Burial will follow at the Pittsburg Garden of Memories Cemetery. The Navy Burial Detail will conduct graveside flag folding services. The family suggest in lieu of flowers you consider a memorial donation to the Veterans Administration or the Parkinson’s Disease Foundation. Donations may be sent to or left at the Bedene Funeral Home, 517 E. Washington, Box 621, Arma, Kansas 66712.
