Clarence “Allen” Sullivan, 78, of Girard, Kansas died at 7:55 A.M. Wednesday, June 14, 2023 at his home.

Mr. Sullivan was born March 25, 1945 at Franklin, Kansas the son of Clarence E. and Mary M. Biederman Sullivan. Allen was a retired engineer for the Kansas City Southern Railroad. He was raised in Franklin and graduated from St. Mary’s Colgan High School in 1964. He had been a resident of Girard since 1978. He married Mary Jean Johnson on July 12, 1968 at Mulberry, Kansas. Mrs. Sullivan survives at the home. He was a member of the Brotherhood of Locomotives Engineers #527 and his friends called him “Sully”. Survivors include his wife, Mary Jean of the home, a daughter, Octava (Mike) Lehman of Frontenac, two sons, William “Bill” (Erin) Sullivan of Frontenac, and Gregory (Stacy) Sullivan of Frontenac, and six grandchildren, Keaton Bartlett, Alana Sullivan, Ella Sullivan, Tenley Sullivan, Lane Sullivan, and Lakyn Sullivan. He was preceded in death by his parents.

A Celebration of Life Service will be at 10 A.M. Monday, June 19, 2023 at the Bedene Funeral Home at Arma, Kansas. John Palumbo will give the eulogy. The family will receive friends from 6 to 7 P.M. Sunday at the Bedene Chapel. Mr. Sullivan has been cremated according to his wishes. Burial of the cremains will be at a later date at the Pittsburg Garden of Memories Cemetery. The family suggests memorials to the Girard Medical Center Auxiliary. Donations may be sent to or left at the Bedene Funeral Home, 517 E. Washington, Box 621, Arma, Kansas 66712.

    It saddened me to hear about Sully. He was such fun to talk to and listen to his stories. He sure enjoyed his ball games etc. Sully will be missed dearly. My heart goes out to you and the family and especially to Mary. Prayers to all.
