Philip Eugene Harris, 91, of Frontenac, Kansas died at 9:10 P.M. Thursday, December 5, 2024 at Oakview Estates at Frontenac, Kansas.
Mr. Harris was born January 28, 1933 at Independence, Kansas the son of Edgar A. and Lois Royse Harris. Philip was a retired school administrator who has been a resident of the Arma area since 2007. He was raised in Fredonia and attended Fredonia and Arcadia Schools. He graduated from Arcadia High School in 1951 and later attended Kansas State Teachers College (PSU) and got a bachelor’s degree in education and later a masters degree in 1961. He taught at Fredonia 1958 to 1971, was assistant principal 1971 to 1972 at Anthony-Harper high school, taught 5 years at Deer River, Minnesota High School as elementary teacher and then principal at Deer River, Minnesota for 18 years prior to retirement. He married Evelyn June Chaussard on December 26, 1952 at Lamar, Missouri. Mrs. Harris preceded him in death July 25, 2019. He served in the U.S. Navy and Air Force in 1954 to 1958 during the Korean War. He was a member of the Arma United Methodist Church, the National Education Association, Deer River Teachers Association, and the Lions Club at Anthony-Harper. Survivors include a son, Wayne (Sherry) Harris of Clark, South Dakota, two daughters, Terri Lois Harris of Basehor, Kansas and Phyllis June (Senter) Timmons of Thayne, Wyoming, a sister, Dena Verlee Parrish of Augusta, Kansas, five grandchildren, and five great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and one grandson.
Funeral services will be at 11 A.M. Tuesday, December 10, 2024 at the Bedene Funeral Home at Arma, Kansas with Pastor Elmer Armijo officiating. Burial will be at the Pittsburg Garden of Memories Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 10 A.M. to 11 A.M. Tuesday prior to the funeral services.
