Madeline M. Yartz, 92, of Arma, Kansas died at 9:22 P.M. Monday, July 10, 2023 at Ascension Via Christi Hospital at Pittsburg, Kansas.
Mrs. Yartz was born August 28, 1930 at Camp 50, the daughter of August and Antonia Mussino Borello. She was raised at Camp 50 and graduated from Arma High School. She married Henry Yartz Jr. on June 10, 1950 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Arma. Madeline was a homemaker and a lifelong resident of Arma. She also worked as a bookkeeper for Sears and Utermoehlen Trucking. Henry and Madeline enjoyed polka dancing with their friends, going to sporting events and spending time with their family. Madeline especially liked doing word puzzles and playing Rummikub with her children and grandchildren. Mr. Yartz preceded her in death July 5, 2013. She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Arma and the S.N.P.J. Lodge #225 at Arma. Survivors include her children, Larry (Sandra) Yartz of Arma; David (Cynthia) Yartz of Arma; Ronald (Lee Ann) Yartz of Overland Park, Kansas; Kenneth (Janice) Yartz of Newton, Kansas; Debra (Thomas) Amershek of Arma; and Susan Tewell of Arma; 11 grandchildren, Greg (Lee) Yartz, Kyle (Stacy) Yartz, Jeffrey (Jessica) Yartz, Kelly Yartz (Thomas), Jason Yartz, Jill (Mark) Cook, Steve (Krista) Amershek, Lindsay (Timmy) O’Donnell, Julie (Paden) Shaffer, Nathan (Stephanie) Yartz and Megan Yartz, and, 30 great grandchildren, Makenzie Yartz, Aaron Yartz, Taylor Yartz, Isabella Yartz, Hayden Yartz, Avery Yartz, Alexander Yartz, William Yartz, Gabriella Yartz, Joseph Yartz, Jase Yartz, Jenna Yartz, Victoria Yartz, Riley Beihl, Carson Beihl, Grayson Beihl, Quincy Beihl, Kennedy Allen, Arik Allen, Kyler Cook, Brayden Amershek, Beckett Amershek, Eastyn O’Donnell, Macyn O’Donnell, Tripp O’Donnell, Kaden Shaffer, Kallen Shaffer, Kinley Shaffer, Colt Yartz, and Crew Yartz, and one great great grandchild, Waylon Yartz, and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Henry; son-in-law, Tim Tewell; brothers, Maurice and Mario Borello; sister-in-laws, Naomi Borello, Josephine Borello, Edna Crites, Helen Swigart, and Nadine Kuhel; and brother-in-laws, Floyd Crites, Bob Swigart, and Joe Kuhel.
Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10 A.M. Friday, July 14, 2023 at the St. Joseph Catholic Church in Arma, Kansas with Father Dan Vacca as the celebrant. Burial will be at the Pittsburg Garden of Memories Cemetery. Rosary will be at 6 P.M. Thursday at the Bedene Funeral Home in Arma where the family will receive friends until 7 P.M. following the rosary. The family suggests memorials to the St. Ann’s Altar Society. Donations may be sent to or left at the Bedene Funeral Home, 517 E. Washington, Box 621, Arma, Kansas 66712.
