Danny J. Rhodes, 77, of Frontenac, Kansas, formerly of Mulberry, Kansas, died at 3:22 A.M. Friday, October 4, 2024 at his home.
Mr. Rhodes was born December 7, 1946 at Dragerton, Utah the son of Alfred L. and Mary Ellen Neil Rhodes Sr. Danny retired coal miner with 27 years of service with Mackie Clemens Coal Company. He was raised Appleton City, Missouri and later moved to Mulberry, Kansas and graduated from Mulberry High School in the Class of 1965. He lived in Mulberry most of his life. He also worked for Wallace Company in Pittsburg, Kansas and later Northeast High School as a bus driver and janitor. He married Susan L. Jones on March 2, 1966 at the Girard Presbyterian Church. He was an Army Infantry Veteran of the Vietnam War. He was a member of the Frontenac United Methodist Church and a former member of the Mulberry United Presbyterian Church, the United Mine Workers of America, the John F. Derby Post #43 of Frontenac, the VFW and DAV at Pittsburg, the Rolling Nostalgia Car Club, and the Triple Deuce Club. He received the Purple Heart, Presidential Unit Citation, and the Combat Infantry Badge.
Survivors include his wife Susan of the home, one son Warren (Kristin) Rhodes of Overland Park, Kansas, one daughter Betsy (Jerry) Knowles of Frontenac, Kansas, three grandchildren Ty Knowles, Katie Rhodes, and Logan Rhodes, one brother Ronald Rhodes of Windsor, Missouri and one sister Lindy Rhodes of Mulberry, Kansas. He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother Alfred L. Rhodes Jr.
Graveside services will be at 10:30 A.M. Monday, October 7, 2024 at the Rosebank Cemetery in Mulberry, Kansas with the Reverend Derrick Harmon officiating. Friends may call from 11:00 A.M. to 4:00 P.M. Sunday, October 6, 2024 at the Bedene Funeral Home in Arma, Kansas. The Fort Riley Burial Detail will conduct graveside flag folding services. The family suggests memorials to St. Jude Children’s Hospital. Donations may be sent to or left at the Bedene Funeral Home, 517 E. Washington, Box 621, Arma, Kansas 66712.
