Carrol Victor Fleury, 91, of Arma, Kansas died at his home at 5:39 A.M. Friday, March 31, 2023 at his home.
Mr. Fleury was born March 9, 1932 at Pittsburg, Kansas the son of Victor and Freda Senechal Fleury. He lived in Arma most of his life. He married Irma Jean Dehon on May 20, 1950 at Liberal, Missouri. Mrs. Fleury preceded him in death May 25, 2018. He entered into the U.S. Army in 1950 and was a veteran of the Korean Conflict. He trained at Ft. Leonard Wood and was stationed at Walters Air Force Base with the 835th Engineers in Mineral Wells, Texas. He contracted polio and was sent to a hospital in Atlanta, Georgia. When he was honorably discharged he and Irma built there home just north of Arma. He worked at many jobs because he could do almost anything. He started hauling and shoveling coal and driving a dump truck at an early age with his Dad. He worked at the Kansas City Southern shops, Cousins Coal Company and Pittsburg Reclaim. He also was a carpenter at Pommier-Casaletto Lumber Yard and the operated the Standard Service Station in Arma in the 1960’s. He then went to road construction work with Freeto Construction Company and Reno Construction operating heavy equipment in K.C., Emporia, Council Grove, Iola, Chanute, and Coffeyville, all while farming and raising hogs I which he depended on a lot to help from Irma and Terry. He also was a bartender at Little Gravy’s which Terry and Donna opened and operated. He also was a policeman for the City of Arma. He retired and kept farming until he was unable to do so. He was a hard worker and never wanted to give up on anything. Survivors include his children, Jeanette (Tony) Simon, Terry (Donna) Fleury, Duane (Bobbi) Fleury all of Arma, and Luana (Dale) Birt of Troy, Missouri, grandchildren, Mindy (Nate) Stahl, Chris (Paula) Fleury, Steven (Krissy) Simon, Suzanne Collins, Delaney Birt, and Logan Birt, great grandchildren, Sicily and Saia Stahl, Andrea Fleury, Brenden and Colten Collins, and Jordan and Gino Simon. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, Irma Jean, and two brothers, Bob and Don Fleury.
Funeral services will be at 10 A.M. Tuesday, April 4, 2023 at the Bedene Funeral Home in Arma with Rev. Michael Wriston officiating. Burial will be at the Pittsburg Garden of Memories Cemetery. Ft. Riley Burial Detail will conduct graveside flag folding services. The family will receive friends from 9 A.M. to 10 A.M. Tuesday prior to the funeral services. Friends may call 1 to 4 P.M. Monday at the Bedene Chapel in Arma. The family suggests memorials to the Lon Helm Post #182 American Legion at Arma or Integrity Home Health Hospice.
